Immune Support Drink for Pregnancy with Garlic & Ginger


As a birth doula, I’m often asked about natural ways to support health and well-being during pregnancy. One of my favorite remedies for boosting immunity and maintaining wellness is a simple drink made with garlic, ginger, lemon, water, salt, and honey. This combination is not only safe during pregnancy but also packed with benefits to help your body stay strong and resilient.


Why It Works

Each ingredient in this drink has its own unique properties, making it a powerhouse for immune support:

  • Garlic: It's antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory! Garlic is a natural immune booster. It contains allicin, which helps fight off infections and supports overall immune health.

  • Ginger: Ginger is a well-known remedy for nausea, making it especially helpful during pregnancy. But beyond easing morning sickness, it also has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which can enhance immune function and help the body fight off illness.

  • Lemon: Packed with vitamin C, lemon strengthens the immune system, supports digestion, and helps detoxify the body.

  • Salt: A pinch of salt helps balance electrolytes, which are essential during pregnancy. Salt also enhances hydration by helping your body absorb the water more efficiently.

  • Honey: Honey not only adds a pleasant sweetness to this drink but also has antimicrobial properties. It soothes the throat, boosts energy, and provides a natural source of antioxidants.

Is It Safe During Pregnancy?

Yes, this drink is generally safe for pregnancy. The ingredients used are natural and gentle, and they provide supportive benefits without introducing any harmful chemicals or toxins. However, like with any remedy, it's always good to check with your healthcare provider if you have any specific health concerns or conditions.


How to Make It

Here’s a simple recipe you can try:

  • 2 cloves of fresh garlic, crushed

  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1-2 tablespoons of honey (adjust for taste)

  • A pinch of salt (Celtic or Himalayan are great options)

  • 1 cup of warm water


Grind the ginger and garlic together. Then pour the garlic/ginger mixture, along with the lemon juice, honey and salt into a cup of warm water. and enjoy this warm, soothing drink, especially at the first sign of a cold or when you feel run down.
